How-to-Guide for Sexy Spring Hair

I'll admit that I'm pretty good at applying makeup, but styling my own hair is not my strongest skill. So take a look at some of my favorite how-to-guides to get the hottest hairstyles for the season.

1) The Boho Braid - The boho braid trend always looks fresh and makes me feel hippie chic. Supermodel Molly Sims changes the average boho braid with her version of it with a wavy side ponytail.

2) The Bedhead Bun - A messy do always look so great and best of all, it's easy. Let some of your waves fall your hair fall out in the front like actress Becki Newton.

3) The Beach Waves - Actress Jennifer Aniston pulls off this look so well. The "just came from the beach look" works for more dressy events as well as for everyday.

Important tip: If you do not have naturally wavy or curly hair, do not scrunch because this will flatten out your waves. Rather, twist it to form a wave while your hair is still wet. After it dries, use a 1-inch curling iron to enhance the curls. Finish off with hairspray and you're ready to go!

Spring Trend: It's all about the boyfriend...

or your pretend boyfriend if you don't have one. The "borrowed from your boyfriend" look has been popular for a while and the trend is going strong.

1) The Blazer
Aqua Boyfriend Jacket with Stripe Cuffs ($88)
Great over dresses and with jeans.... a simple black blazer adds a nice finishing touch to any outfit.

2) The Boyfriend Jean
7 for All Mankind Vintage Stretch Boot Cut
($189)
I was originally not a fan of this look, but I still love the idea of a more casual jean. So I decided to modify the rolled up jeans with a pair of distressed, more loose fitting denim. You get the same idea but a more flattering fit since the jeans do not cut off your legs.

3) The White T-Shirt
Hanes Tagless V-Neck T-Shirts 5-Pack ($11)
Lightweight and easy, a white t-shirt is essential in any closet. Wear under a cardigan with a pair of jeans for a comfy, everyday outfit.

4) The Oversized Watch
Michael Kors Chronograph Sports Watch ($225)
My favorite boyfriend trend of them all. The man's watch is not new but more like a modern classic. I always get compliments on mine from Michael Kors, who makes great watches.

Top Designers: New York Fashion Week

New York Fashion Week wrapped up today and I've been trying to keep up with all the collections. I thought many of them were very beautiful and inspiring, but I have a few favorites. Take a look at my top collections from the week.

Rebecca Taylor has become one of my new favorite designers. She always manages to keep her designs feminine but edgy.

Marchesa creates the most beautiful gowns and dresses and this one is no exception.

Ralph Lauren is always chic and timeless. Although his designs are classic, they are never boring.

As I mentioned earlier last week, Jason Wu is one designer to watch. This is just one of my many favorite looks from his show.

I've also always adored Jenni Kayne's designs and I'm definitely a fan of the geek chic looks from her collection this fall.

Jill Stuart's collection was gorgeous, sexy and incorporated a lot of black and lace... an excellent combination.

Spring Fashion Transition

It's that time of year to update your winter wardrobe. During these transitional weeks in between seasons, add some seasonal and lightweight pieces like these which will take you into the warmer weather.

1) Old Navy Belted Trench Coat ($49.50) A classic piece at a great price. Every woman must own a trench coat whether it's in black, khaki or bright pink. It will keep you warm now and is great for those chilly Spring nights.

2) Abercrombie and Fitch Classic Floral Scarf ($58) Lightweight scarves are perfect accessory to any outfit. While it's still cool outside, add a floral scarf like this one by Abercrombie and Fitch to bring in the seasonal trends while staying warm.

3) J. Crew Tissue Pleated Top ($45) I'm completely obsessed with tissue tees. They are super soft and great for layering. The pleats on this version takes the basic tee to the next level with an added feminine touch.

4) Paige Premium Denim Roxbury Crop in Light Stretch Destruction ($189) I love Paige jeans and this cropped pair works for every season. Wear them with boots now and ballet flats or gladiator sandals later when the weather gets warmer.

Designer Spotlight: Jason Wu

New York Fashion Week kicked off today in New York City. Although I was looking forward to seeing the all the designer collections on the runway, I was most excited to see Jason Wu's collection for the fall.

Designer Jason Wu, known for creating First Lady Michelle Obama's inaugural ball gown, showed off his Fall 2009 collection today after much anticipation. The 26-year-old designer shot to fame after Michelle Obama premiered his white embroidered gown with organza flowers in January.

Wu's collection featured edgy patterns and a mostly neutral palette with pops of bright color from neon yellow to different shades of blue. The collection included an array of gorgeous gowns, structured skirts, sheaths, and chiffon blouses. Wu's collection was simple and modern yet had a touch of elegance. He is definitely a designer to continue to watch in the future.

Spring Shoe Preview

Even though we're still in the middle of winter, I'm so ready for the warm weather to come so I can let my toes breathe in some fab sandals. Here are some current footwear trends you'll see for the spring.

1) Nine West, Kentaro ($89) Neutral-colored sandals are not only flattering as they elongate your legs, these studded pair from Nine West give off a tribal vibe that is going to be a popular look for the season.

2) Banana Republic, 'Bella' huarache platform ($140) Spring is the time to experiment and have fun with your shoes. Platforms are the perfect choice if you want the extra height and even if you're tall, why not embrace it?

3) Steve Madden, Broose ($69.95) Gladiators have been around for many seasons and are here to stay. These pair by Steve Madden are the perfect sandal to dress up or down any outfit.

Beauty Bag: Must-Haves

Anyone who knows me knows that I am absolutely obsessed with beauty products and that Sephora is one of my favorite stores. I wanted to share with you the three beauty products that are my current favorites.

1) Nars Cream Eyeshadow, Corfu ($21) I started using this cream eyeshadow this past summer and I became addicted. The shimmery taupe color works really well with my olive skin tone. The soft and creamy texture acts as a great base to wear under eyeshadows but also looks good alone.

2) Rimmel London Blush, Peach ($3.29) If you love the Nars cult favorite, Orgasm... this blush is just as good and for a more affordable price. The soft, peachy color gives my skin a natural glow and lasts all day.

3) M.A.C Tinted Lipglass, Prrr ($14) This is another one of my staples. I've gone through so many tubes and no matter what other lipglosses I've tried, I always go back to this one. The shimmery peach gloss stays on and gives your lips a natural pink color.

Welcome

Welcome to my first post on dhostyle! My name is Donna and I'm a student at Syracuse University. I am starting this blog for my fashion communications course but I'm also using it as a way for friends to keep up with the fashion and beauty images that inspire my everyday style and as a place to find my take on the latest news in fashion.

So I'm stuck here in the bitter cold but I want to stay stylish and warm. Earmuffs are a popular trend that I've seen all over the SU campus and not only are they cute but they keep my ears nice and toasty! I'm wearing a pair that are available at J. Michael Shoes in Syracuse.
